He knows the trades
Sewing, carpentry, welding, glass, finishing: he has practised or managed each of these trades. He speaks the craftspeople's language and knows what a schedule asks of them.
Sylvain Brochu learned his trade with his hands in the material. That is what gives him credibility today when he leads craftspeople.
After studying fashion marketing at Académie Julien, he joined Cirque du Soleil headquarters in 1999, cutting, preparing and sewing costumes.
In 2003, he went on international tour with Varekai. Over four years, he learned how to keep a production running on the road: costumes, suppliers, shipping, pallets and ATA carnets. He also designed costumes for the LOVE premiere in Las Vegas and the Corteo premiere in New York, then for events in Rome and Turkey.
In 2007, he founded Even Even Design, a company making custom light fixtures and one-of-a-kind pieces. With a network of welders, CNC cutters, glassblowers and installers, he supplied lighting for the boutique hotel Maison Grinder, large private residences and events for Cirque du Soleil's events division. He also founded Onomiko, a brand of luxury robes, tunics and wrap dresses, presented in three fashion shows.
From 2015 to 2024, he ran operations at the Never Apart centre for the Age of Union foundation: more than 35 exhibitions, up to 10 at a time, a team of employees and installers, and the entire building.
In 2026, he took charge of the props for the Formula 1 Grand Prix show.
Today he is looking for a role where he leads teams rather than doing the fabrication himself: production management, project management or operations management. In the longer term, he also wants to train the next generation.
Four traits that show up in all his projects.
Sewing, carpentry, welding, glass, finishing: he has practised or managed each of these trades. He speaks the craftspeople's language and knows what a schedule asks of them.
At the Never Apart centre, budgets were tight. He learned to negotiate every purchase and to choose the option that gets the best result for the least money.
Four years of touring taught him to plan packing, transport and teardown from the design stage.
His next chapter: leading teams and, in time, training the next generation of craftspeople.
Sylvain is looking for a role in production management, project management or operations management in Montreal.
